To Kill an American

You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!)

'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land
in the history of the world.
The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness..

An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!


As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ........
The national symbol of America , The Statue
of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores,
the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact
are the people who built America.


Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world... But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Eagles on Lake Erie????

January of this year, 2013, the 

weather stayed so cold in 

Cleveland, Ohio on the shores of 

Lake Erie & Rocky River. that the 

bald eagles were cruising 

over houses in hopes of a quick meal. 

They could not access fish that 

were at the bottom of the river 

and had gathered together.

Some kind souls decided to 

feed the eagles so they would 

survive the cold spell.
They gathered fish and started 

feeding the group of eagles 

huddled on the shore.

A little old lady went to the grocery store to  buy cat food. She picked up four cans and  took them to the check out counter. The girl at the cash register said, "I'm sorry,  but we cannot sell you cat food without  proof that you have a cat. A lot of old people buy cat food to eat, and  the management wants proof that you are  buying the cat food for your cat." The little old lady went home, picked up  her cat and brought it back to the store. They sold her the cat food. The next day, she tried to buy two cans  of dog food. Again the cashier said "I'm sorry, but we  cannot sell you dog food without proof  that you have a dog. A lot of old people buy dog food to eat,  but the management wants proof that  you are buying the dog food for your dog." So she went home and brought in her dog. She then was able to buy the dog food. The next day she brought in a  box with a hole in the lid. The little old lady asked the cashier to  stick her finger in the hole. The cashier said, "No, you might have  a snake in there." The little old lady assured her that  there was nothing in the box that  would harm her. So the cashier put her finger into  the box and quickly pulled it out. She said to the little old lady, "That smells like shit." The little old lady said, "It is. I want to buy three rolls of toilet paper."

Old Fisherman - worth reading (WOW)

THE OLD FISHERMAN Our house was directly across the street from the clinic entrance of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. We lived downstairs & rented the upstairs rooms to outpatients at the Clinic. One summer evening as I was fixing supper, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly awful looking man. 'Why, he's hardly taller than my eight-year-old,' I thought as I stared at the stooped, shriveled body. But the appalling thing was his face, lopsided from swelling, red & raw. Yet, his voice was pleasant as he said,'Good evening. I've come to see if you've a room for just one night. I came for a treatment this morning from the eastern shore, & there's no bus 'till morning.' He told me he'd been hunting for a room since noon but with no success; no one seemed to have a room. 'I guess it's my face. I know it looks terrible, but my doctor says with a few more treatments...' For a moment I hesitated, but his next words convinced me, 'I could sleep in this rocking chair on the porch. My bus leaves early in the morning.' I told him we would find him a bed, but to rest on the porch. I went inside & finished getting supper. When we were ready, I asked the old man if he would join us. 'No thank you. I have plenty' And he held up a brown paper bag. When I had finished the dishes, I went out on the porch to talk with him a few minutes. It didn't take a long time to see that this old man had an over sized heart crowded into that tiny body. He told me he fished for a living to support his daughter, her five children & her husband, who was hopelessly crippled from a back injury. He didn't tell it by way of complaint; in fact, every other sentence was prefaced with thanks to God for a blessing. He was grateful that no pain accompanied his disease, which was apparently a form of skin cancer. He was thankful for the strength to keep going. At bedtime, we put a camp cot in the children's room for him. When I got up in the morning, the bed linens were neatly folded, & the little man was out on the porch. He refused breakfast, but just before he left for his bus, haltingly, as if asking a great favor, he said, 'Could I please come back & stay the next time I have a treatment? I won't put you out a bit. I can sleep fine in a chair.' He paused a moment & then added, 'Your children made me feel at home. Grownups are bothered by my face, but children don't seem to mind.' I told him he was welcome to come again. And on his next trip he arrived a little after seven in the morning. As a gift, he brought a big fish & a quart of the largest oysters I had ever seen. He said he had shucked them that morning before he left so that they'd be nice & fresh. I knew his bus left at 4 a.m., & I wondered what time he had to get up in order to do this for us. In the years he came to stay overnight with us there was never a time that he did not bring us fish or oysters or vegetables from his garden. Other times we received packages in the mail, always by special delivery; fish & oysters packed in a box of fresh young spinach or kale, every leaf carefully washed. Knowing that he must walk three miles to mail these & knowing how little money he had made the gifts doubly precious. When I received these little remembrances, I often thought of a comment our next-door neighbor made after he left that first morning. 'Did you keep that awful looking man last night? I turned him away! You can lose roomers by putting up such people!' Maybe we did lose roomers once or twice But, oh if only they could have known him, perhaps their illness would have been easier to bear. I know our family always will be grateful to have known him; from him we learned what it was to accept the bad without complaint & the good with gratitude... Recently I was visiting a friend who has a greenhouse. As she showed me her flowers, we came to the most beautiful one of all, a golden chrysanthemum, bursting with blooms. But to my great surprise, it was growing in an old dented, rusty bucket. I thought to myself, 'If this were my plant, I'd put it in the loveliest container I had!' My friend changed my mind. 'I ran short of pots,' she explained, 'and knowing how beautiful this one would be, I thought it wouldn't mind starting out in this old pail. It's just for a little while, till I can put it out in the garden.' She must have wondered why I laughed so delightedly, but I was imagining just such a scene in heaven. There's an especially beautiful one,' God might have said when he came to the soul of the sweet old fisherman. 'He won't mind starting in this small body.' All this happened long ago -- and now, in God's garden, how tall this lovely soul must stand.. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.' Friends are very special. They make you smile & encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear & they share a word of praise. Show your friends how much you care. Pass this on, & brighten someone's day. Nothing will happen if you do not decide to pass it along. The only thing that will happen if you do pass it on is that someone might smile because of you! Never look down on anybody, unless you're helping them up. "Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point." WISHING YOU LOVE IN YOUR HEART...PEACE IN YOUR SOUL..AND JOY IN YOUR LIFE.....ALWAYS...

The  Window from which we look

A   young couple moves into a new neighborhood.

                
The next morning while  they are eating breakfast, the  young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside. "That laundry  is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash  correctly.  Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."

Her   husband looked on, but remained silent. Every  time her neighbor would hang her wash to  dry, the young woman  would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line  and said to her  husband, "Look, she  has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her  this."

The husband  said, "I got up early this morning and cleaned our  windows."

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window  through which we look!

Funny! $5.37! That's what the kid behind the counter At Taco Bell said to me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out Some lint and two dimes and something that used to be a Jolly Rancher. Having already handed the kid a Five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab Some change When the kid with the Elmo hairdo said The hardest thing anyone has ever said to Me. He said, "It's OK. I'll just give you the senior citizen Discount." I turned to see who He was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting The counter in front of me. "Only$4.68" he said cheerfully. I stood There stupefied. I am 56, not even 60 Yet? A mere Child! Senior citizen? I took my Burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong With Elmo. Was he blind? As I sat in the truck, my blood began To boil. Old? Me? I'll show him, I Thought. I opened the door and headed back Inside. I strode to the counter, And there he was waiting with a Smile. Before I could say a word, he held up something And jingled it in front of me, Like I could be that easily Distracted! What am I Now? A Toddler? "Dude! Can't get too far without your car keys, He?" I stared with utter disdain at the Keys. I began to rationalize in my mind! "Leaving keys behind Hardly makes a man elderly! It could happen to Anyone!" I turned and Headed back to the truck. I slipped the key into the ignition, But it wouldn't turn. What Now? I checked my keys and tried Another. Still nothing. That's when I Noticed the purple Beads hanging from my Rear view mirror. I had no purple Beads hanging from my rear view Mirror. Then, a few other objects came into Focus: The car seat in the back Seat. Happy Meal toys spread all over the Floorboard. A partially eaten dough nut on the Dashboard. Faster than you can say Ginkgo Biloba, I flew Out of the alien vehicle. Moments later I was Speeding out of the parking lot, Relieved to finally be leaving this Nightmarish stop in my life. That is when I felt it, deep in the Bowels of my stomach: hunger! My stomach growled and churned, and I Reached to grab my burrito, Only it was nowhere to be Found. I swung the truck around, gathered my Courage, And strode back into the restaurant One final time. There Elmo stood, draped in youth and Black nail polish. All I could think was, "What is the world coming To?" All I could say was, "Did I leave my food and drink in Here"? At this point I was ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my Vehicle, And then go straight home and apply For Social Security benefits. Elmo had no Clue. I walked back out to the Truck, And suddenly a young lad came up and Tugged on my jeans to get my Attention. He was holding up a drink and a Bag. His mother Explained, "I think you left This in my truck by mistake." I took the food and drink from the Little boy and sheepishly apologized. She offered these Kind words: "It's OK. My Grandfather does stuff like this all the Time." All of this is to explain how I got a Ticket doing 85 in a 40 mph zone. Yessss, I was racing Some punk kid in a Toyota Prius. And no, I told the officer, I'm Nottoo Old to be Driving this fast. As I walked in the front door, my Wife met me halfway down the Hall. I handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding Ticket. I promptly sat in my rocking chair and Covered up my legs with a blankey. The good news was that I had Successfully found my way home. Pass this on to the Other "old fogies" on your list (so they can have Fun laughing, too). Notice the Larger Type? That's for those of us who have Trouble reading. P.S. Save the earth...... It's the Only planet with chocolate!!!!! Oh, did I send this to you already? Sorry. I hope you liked it again for the first time, like I did.

You are in your car driving home. Thoughts wander to the  game you want to see or meal you want to eat, when  suddenly a sound unlike any you've ever heard fills the air.   The sound is high above you.   A trumpet?   A choir?   A choir of trumpets?   You don't know, but you want to know....   So you pull over, get out of your car, and look up..  As you do, you see you aren't the only curious one.  The roadside has become a parking lot. Car doors  are open, and people are staring at the sky..   Shoppers are racing out of the grocery store.  The Little League baseball game across the street  has come to a halt. Players and parents are searching  the clouds And what they see, and what you see,  has never before been seen.   As if the sky were a curtain, the drapes of the  atmosphere   part.... A brilliant light spills onto the earth... There are no  shadows... None.   From every hue ever seen and a million  more never seen.. Riding on the flow is an endless fleet of  angels. They pass through the curtains one myriad at a time,  until they occupy every square inch of the sky.   North.. South. East... West.   Thousands of silvery wings rise and fall in unison, and over  the sound of the trumpets, you can hear the cherubim and  seraphim chanting,   "Holy, Holy, Holy..." The final flank of angels is followed by  twenty-four silver-bearded elders and a multitude of souls  who join the angels in worship.   Suddenly, the heavens are quiet. All is quiet. The angels turn,  you turn, the entire world turns and there He is.... Jesus.   Through waves of light you see the silhouetted figure of  Christ the King. He is atop a great stallion, and the stallion is atop a billowing cloud. He opens his mouth, and you are  surrounded by his declaration: "I am the Alpha and the Omega." The angels bow their heads... The elders remove their crowns... And before you is a Figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters... Forget stock markets  and school reports: Sales meetings and football games..  Nothing is newsworthy.. . All that mattered, matters no more..  For Christ has come.   Please let me know the exact time you read this.  It is mystical--honest.   This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven,  he saw me, and he asked: "My child, what is your  greatest wish for today?"   I responded: 'Lord please; take care of my family, my friends,  the person who is reading this message, their family and their  special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much.'   The love of God is like the ocean, you can see  its beginnings but not its end.   This message works on the day you receive it. To  some  it may  sound dumb, but the person who sent  this to me was impressed with its timing. They're making great progress. The Navy Chaplains can no longer mention Jesus' name in prayer thanks to the ACLU and others. I'm not breaking this one.
