Use your power to make the text of the TPP public!

Watchdog.net

 just wanted to make sure you saw Sara's email from yesterday. A vote on Fast Track could come at any moment — and making the text of TPP public could really change the direction of this fight. If you've already taken action, can you forward this email to five of your friends to multiply our impact?
Thanks,
David Segal, Watchdog.net

Antonio —
The Trans-Pacific Partnership, or TPP, talks a big game for a bill that remains cloaked in secrecy. Repeatedly called "the most progressive trade bill in history," the multinational trade agreement — negotiated behind closed doors with representatives of some of the world's biggest corporations — promises sweeping reforms to the way we do business with eleven other countries and a laundry list of economic benefits.
There's just one problem: we haven't seen the full text. Proponents of the bill want to keep it that way because they know you'll object to what's in it. They're pushing for the House to vote on Fast Track trade negotiating authority — essentially a vote to pre-approve the bill — possibly as soon as this week. If they have their way, the text of the TPP will still be secret from the public when the vote takes place.
Click here to tell Congress: use your power to make the text of the TPP public!

The three ways that members of Congress can take action on this — collectively, or individually — are pretty clear:
  • The House and Senate Intelligence Committees have the power to declassify any document in their possession if they believe that doing so would serve the public interest;
  • Any individual Member of Congress could publish — e.g., by entering into the Congressional Record — a portion of the draft TPP negotiating text, as Republican Congressman Darrell Issa did when he published the intellectual property chapter;
  • Members of the House who have not yet committed to vote no on Fast Track could pledge to vote no on Fast Track if the text of the TPP is not made public before the vote.
Cick here to add your name and urge Congress to use its power to force publication of this secretive agreement.
Thanks for standing with us.
