But today, our country is ruled by a new king: the fossil fuel industry. Coal, oil, and gas companies -- run by millionaires and billionaires like Dick Cheney and the Koch Brothers -- earn massive profits while poisoning our communities and polluting our planet. Our health, our jobs, and even the most basic of civil rights are under attack and the communities that are least responsible for polluting our environment and disrupting our climate are paying the biggest price -- from superstorms and record-setting drought to high rates of asthma and cancer.But you -- and generations of activists -- have proven that when people stand up for justice, we win.
