Dear Friend,
Heartbreaking. That's the only way I can describe the West's out-of-control fires. These megafires are claiming the lives of both people and wildlife. They are burning millions of acres. The smell of smoke is everywhere.
We shouldn't wait for unnatural megafires to blaze before we do something about them -- because we can put them out before they get started. Donate now.
Because as long as we allow our forests to remain overgrown...as long as we allow our grasslands to be overtaken by highly flammable invasive plants...it's only a matter of time until the next destructive fire takes its toll.
That's why I'm asking you to help put conservation solutions in action and make critical lands like forests and grasslands healthy once again. Please don't wait to make a gift today.
Right now, there are 66 major fires burning across 11 states. And this year's fire season is the worst in 10 years.
For the sake of all of the beautiful places that have been lost, for the sake of all of the people and wildlife who have lost their homes, we need to stop this kind of destruction from repeating itself summer after summer.
Your support can help with efforts like our work to restore forests in 18 states, including treating overgrown areas at risk to dangerous fires. And eliminating prime fuel for fast-moving blazes like cheatgrass and other non-native plants.
I urge you to donate now and help put smart, science-based solutions like these in action.
These are just a couple examples of how, at The Nature Conservancy, we're working to restore nature's balance so catastrophes like today's megafires can be put out before they start. We use the very best conservation science to get to the root causes. And every proven approach we rely on is only possible because of support from members like you.
Thank you for your commitment to protecting our lands and waters. I hope you will not wait to help.
Sincerely,
Dave Strauss Director of Membership The Nature Conservancy
