The tragic shooting of Virginia journalists


Early this morning, Virginia reporter Alison Parker and her cameraman Adam Ward were fatally shot while on air. The shooting suspect, Bryce Williams , died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. As this tragedy is unfolding, an ethical debate rages about how to handle the graphic footage. Parker’s death is yet another addition to theshockingly high number of women killed on the job, and the rate of gun-death in the US is 19.5 times higher than that of similar high-income countries. Suspected Shooter Of Virginia TV Journalists Identified: Bryce Williams
The shooter in a tragic incident Wednesday morning in which two journalists, 24-year-old Alison Parker and 27-year-old Adam Ward, at a local Virginia television station were shot and killed has been identified as 41-year-old Vester Lee Flanagan II. Reports say he was a former employee of the station, and went as Bryce Williams on air. Sources initially indicated also the shooter is an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, presumably Parker, though excerpts of a manifesto allegedly written by Williams indicates he felt discrimination as a gay black man. ...(read more)
