Romanian Farmers Reject Monsanto: In 1998, Romania was the first country in Europe to introduce GM crops. Despite initial enthusiasm for GM crops, by 2015, only 2.5 hectares of GM corn were cultivated for commercial purposes, by only one cultivator – a research station from Neamt county. All the farmers in the country had opted out due to the poor quality and very low productivity of Monsanto's corn. Monsanto tried to offer their seeds to farmers for free in a desperate attempt to maintain production of the only GMO available on the European market. Romanian farmers have said, "NO". Good riddance, Monsanto. GMOs: Not wanted. Not needed. Not safe.
