PORK BARREL LIVE IN LUNETA

Art as it has always been since time immemorial a venue of aspirations, convictions, beliefs and struggles of people to mold their destiny, to recreate the world in the manner best for humankind.  Art like music drives man into a feeling of euphoria, while dazing at the artwork, it makes him cry, it makes laugh, it emboldens him to face  insurmountable challenges and conquer the invincible. 

Art for this sake has been closer to me now than when I was. Now, I understand that art could be a platform to deliver my homeland from extreme poverty and economic inequity, where government coffer thieves are well organized, robbing their own people of means to enjoy a decent life. This is the cause,  I would want to express as I deliver my statement of purpose.


Today, the scandal of pork barrel scam where billions of people's tax money are siphoned out into private individuals interests through insidious manipulations of government fund disbursement procedures. The pork, flesh of a pig,  is loaded in the barrel, thus named as pork barrel, literally;  but due to the news of organized malversation of government monies, pandemonium of country folks against it, leaves an awakened and vigilant populace to despise it; hence, the pig which should have been pork had remained live on account of these expose. This is the concept of this project.
I gather pictures of pigs, barrels and familiar landscape from my home land and assembled them into photoshop. Shell,  since being a company involved in the Malampaya funds mess, the barrel with Shell emblem makes a perfect choice and Luneta, the Rizal Park is likewise outstanding landmark, and the pig is really greasy.

I would want to call that project as  PORK BARREL LIVE IN LUNETA, purposely intended as a message to my home folks to remain vigilant and keep the pig live and breathing.

Paintbrush, airbrush, eyedropper, eraser, marquee, lasso, move, magic wand, crop, and transform commands (flip, scale, rotate) were some tools I utilized together with the color palette, color picker and swatches palette and applied layer masking.

I believe this project is a successful one being contemporary and socially relevant.
