Friends,
Last week, news broke that the major European oil companies will be teaming up because they’re worried their voices aren’t loud enough. That’s right, mega-corporations like BP and Shell have joined forces to make sure they have even more influence over climate policy.
But we're pushing back and with your help we won't let them win. We’ve joined a broad coalition of organizations calling on our government officials to kick big polluters out of climate policy. And we need as many people as possible joining the call.
The timing of this new oily partnership is no accident — at the end of the year a major international climate summit will be taking place in Paris, France. With this news, it’s more clear than ever the fossil fuel industry is going to do everything they can to derail progress.
Big Oil is currently considered a legitimate "stakeholder" by some at the talks, but letting them influence climate policy is like letting Big Tobacco into a conference on how to quit smoking.
We need to stop treating these polluters as stakeholders and remove them from climate policymaking. The only way we’ll make political progress on climate is if we limit the corporate interference that has watered down action for decades.
Big Oil won't give up without a fight, but the writing is on the wall: a fossil-fueled future is not in the cards. Our movement is stronger than ever and growing by the day.
Join the call to give corporate polluters the boot. Your message will be delivered at an important meeting happening this June in Bonn, Germany.
A global coalition removed Big Tobacco from international public health policymaking a decade ago, and it saved lives. It’s time we do the same thing for the climate.
