MANILA - To many laymen, the separation of Church and State, which the 1987 Constitution declares "inviolable," simply means that the government cannot meddle in matters concerning any church.
But what if a person claims that his or her rights have been violated because of what has been happening inside a church? Or worse, what if "church matters" involve alleged criminal acts?
"The moment I allege a crime has been committed, whether it is serious illegal detention or illegal detention, hindi puwedeng hindi umaksiyon ang gobyerno," said Fr. Rahnilio Aquino, Dean of the San Beda Graduate School of Law, in an interview over radio DZMM.
