Just over a week ago, people who work in wind energy held a major event on Capitol Hill to meet with elected representatives about renewable energy policy. And early this morning, thousands of knee-high pinwheels creating the outline of a wind turbine popped up on the National Mall in front of the U.S. Capitol!
The Power of Wind team was there to see it. Check out the video, and if you like it, please share it with your friends:

The pinwheels were a celebration of an exciting announcement
– that Procter & Gamble has bought enough wind energy to make some of the best-known consumer products in America with 100% wind power! An EDF Renewable Energy wind project in Muenster, Texas will generate as much electricity as is used by Procter & Gamble's factories in Ohio, Missouri, Louisiana, Kansas, and Ontario to produce Tide, Downey, Dawn, Cascade, and Febreze. Those products sold nationwide will now carry the words “made with 100% wind power,” helping us get the word out that the clean energy revolution is here, and it’s being made in America.
This commitment shows how much of a difference businesses can make in reducing carbon pollution. We now have a national commitment, called the Clean Power Plan, to significantly reduce carbon pollution in the next 15 years. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has directed the states to create plans to cut electric power plants’ emissions 32% below 2005 levels by 2030. The Texas wind farm involved in the Procter & Gamble deal alone will offset 250,000 metric tons of carbon pollution – 1% of the reduction we need to achieve nationally.
Traditionally, it has been mostly electric utilities purchasing the electricity from wind farms. But especially in the past two years, more companies, universities, hospitals, and government agencies have been signing contracts to power their properties with 100% wind power directly.
In the coming year, the Power of Wind will help you get involved in urging your state to get its Clean Power Plan right. Using an example like the Muenster wind farm, you can show your policymakers that wind power is the biggest, fastest, cheapest way to generate carbon-free electricity.
Please consider making a gift today to support the work we’re doing to unleash the power of wind. With even a small contribution, you’ll help us gear up for strong citizen action campaigns in 2016.
Thank you in advance for your support! We couldn’t do this important work without you!
