A couple of weeks ago, fake trade supporters in the Senate bought enough Democratic votes to get past a filibuster. I have no idea what the real quid pro quo was, but the stated quid pro quo was that "trade assistance" (retraining support for who lose their jobs specifically because of a trade deal, and can prove it) would be included in the bill, and passed at the same time. So the Senate joined Fast Track and trade assistance at the hip.
When it came up for a vote in the House last week, with the two joined together, the Fast Track part passed by an exceedingly close vote - 219 to 211. The Democrats listed above voted in favor of it. If only four of those Democrats had voted against it, then it would have failed on its own. But it failed anyway, because a huge majority of the House voted against the trade assistance part, meaning that the whole thing crashed and burned.
Tomorrow, the Powers That Be are bringing back the Fast Track section on its own, without trade assistance, and thus contrary to what the Senate voted for. Their hope is that the House will pass Fast Track on its own, regardless of the workers who lose their jobs.
You won't be the only one; I can guarantee it. One GOP Member of Congress told me last week that his calls were running 100-to-1 against Fast Track. We need to be that 100 tomorrow.

Donald Trump wants to rock in the free world, but Neil Young is not having it.
Mr. Trump, the billionaire businessman, drew Mr. Young’s rebuke on Tuesday when he strode across the stage at Trump Tower to declare his presidential candidacy backed by Mr. Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” the musician’s team said in a statement. “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for president of the United States of America.”
That Mr. Young would insult The Donald for using his rock anthem and endorse someone more liberal could have been foreseen. After all, the song is famously liberal, having been written as an indictment of the poverty policies of the elder President George Bush’s administration. Mr. Trump is a Republican.
He is not the first presidential candidate to be admonished for using an artist’s song without permission. In April, Senator Marco Rubio declared his candidacy to the electronic tune “Something New,” drawing disapproval from the Swedish duo Axwell and Ingrosso. Mitt Romney was a three-time offender during his 2012 presidential campaign, drawing scorn for using K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag,” the Silversun Pickups’ “Panic Switch,” and Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.”
Nor is Mr. Trump the first conservative to use music with a mismatched message. Ronald Reagan praised Bruce Springsteen’s “message of hope” after The Boss released the album “Born in the U.S.A.” The title song was written to protest broken government, the vast military-industrial complex and the mistreatment of American war veterans, but it has become a patriotic anthem, and politicians of all stripes continue rocking to it.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc has received U.S. permission to disturb marine mammals as part of its plan to resume oil exploration off Alaska’s Arctic coast as it neared final sign-off from regulators to drill this summer.
The last step in the process, approval of a specific drilling plan from the Interior Department, could come soon, clearing the way for Shell to resume operations that were halted after offshore mishaps in 2012. The Arctic exploration season begins on July 15.
“There is nothing to indicate any show stoppers” in Shell’s application, said Brian Salerno, the director of the Interior Department’s offshore safety bureau. The back-and-forth between the company and regulators “are proceeding,” he told reporters Tuesday after testifying to Congress about Arctic issues.
