Sea Shepherd Needs Your Support To Defend the Dolphins

An Appeal from Captain Paul Watson

The response to our appeal to replace the boats stolen from us by the Danish Navy and the Danish Police has been very encouraging.

We have raised some 55,000 Euros and almost 30% of our goal in the last four days which is very good despite the fact that Facebook restricts the number of people that can be reached with each posting which is the reason that I must post the appeal numerous times with the hope that it will reach all Sea Shepherd supporters.

And if every person who supports Sea Shepherd on our pages donates something we will reach our goal and we will replace our boats and demonstrate that we have the support to continue our opposition to the brutal and archaic slaughter of Pilot whales and dolphins in the Danish Faroe Islands.

So far we have had 1,685 people contribute to this appeal. Imagine what we could achieve if everyone who cares about defending the lives of the dolphins gave even just a small donation.

At this very moment, Sea Shepherd has volunteer crews on three ships in Faroese waters. We have volunteers on the ground in Taiji, Japan defending dolphins. We have volunteers on the ground in Northern Scotland defending seals. We have volunteers on the ground in Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia, Cape Verde and Florida defending turtles. We are preparing a vessel to return to defend the endangered Vaquita in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez.

If you support the efforts of these hundreds of volunteers who are engaged in actively saving the lives of so many citizens of the sea, please consider making a donation to this appeal.

As Hillary Clinton falters and Bernie Sanders surges, Democratic Party leaders are beginning to panic. “If party leaders see a scenario next winter where Bernie Sanders has a real chance at the Democratic nomination,” Garnet Coleman, a Democratic national committee man told the N.Y. Times, “leaders will reach out to Vice President Biden or Secretary of State Kerry or even Gore about entering the primaries.”

Wait a minute. Didn’t Biden, Kerry, and Gore all lose in their presidential bids? If Bernie continues to gain ground, Party leaders would be wise to embrace him rather than run away from him. If the Democratic Party has a future, it will look and sound a lot more like Bernie Sanders than establishment candidates. After all, even when Democrats had the White House and a majority in Congress -- during Obama’s first two years and also during Bill Clinton’s first two years -- they still allowed big corporations, Wall Street, and billionaires to plunder our economy and pillage our democracy.

The price of oil could fall as low as $20, Goldman Sachs warned last night.

As fears about China’s growth continued, the Wall Street giant’s stark analysis of the global crude market pummelled prices again yesterday.

The price of Brent Crude fell more than 2 per cent after analysts at Goldman and Commerzbank slashed their forecasts. Oil has more than halved since last summer as supply increased due to the surging production of the US shale industry.

New work from an international team including Carnegie’s Ken Caldeira demonstrates that the planet’s remaining fossil fuel resources would be sufficient to melt nearly all of Antarctica if burned, leading to a 50- or 60-meter (160 to 200 foot) rise in sea level. Because so many major cities are at or near sea level, this would put many highly populated areas where more than a billion people live under water, including New York City and Washington, DC. It is published in Science Advances.
